Emory University's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL) is a place of discovery. Here students, scholars, and other visitors can browse rare books, read original letters and manuscripts, and listen to rare recordings. MARBL's renowned collections span more than 800 years of human history—with particular depth in modern literature, African American history, and the history of Georgia and the South.

William Henry Scott started life as a slave, spent 3 1/2 years with the Union Army and became a leader in the freedom struggle. This exhibition traces his journey from the Civil War to Civil Rights.
